How to prevent your laptop being stolen

It's part of our world today we have to live with low-level crime and petty theft. Normally we do not have to think about this a lot and most of us go through life without too many bad experiences in this field.

More and more of us are using personal computers and devices in our daily lives - from laptops, net books, tablets, iPods, Blackberries, etc. Our use of these machines is becoming more public, that are connected in cafes, public spaces and work in the park and in banks. We have over this team with us more often and if not careful, it can be very attractive to thieves and criminals.

Anyone who uses a laptop computer or laptop to work on the move or while out and that will always be related to the security of that piece of equipment. It is just part of our reality that there are people out there who have their stuff when not expected! Most of us are pretty good at using our instincts and take appropriate precautions we can, but often a bit silly mistake or a distraction from our side can offer a gift for a thief or a criminal opportunists and bam, our team is riding on the street - we're left stunned and upset.

So without being vigilant or paranoid wreck, how can we maximize the security of our machines and reduce the chances of becoming victims of crime? Here are some rules and basic common sense to bear in mind when working outside the office or in our homes.

     1. When you're sitting in a public place like a library, you can do itself a favor by sitting away from the doors. If you are off looking at books to ensure that any thief is a journey to reach an exit.
     2. In pubs and cafes to sit outside the entrance to have a good view of incoming and outgoing, and could be looking for an easy target. This is not to look at every person who enters but can put their peripheral vision and awareness sense if you were facing a wall with their backs to the door.
     3. Invest in a security cable with a padlock or combination lock. These cables are usually made out of flexible, hardened steel can be wrapped around a table leg and locked in the security slot on your notebook or laptop. A determined thief will get through this, of course, but it would take a couple of minutes - and that's too risky.
     4. Do not have your wallet, phone and laptop all at once. You will not know which one to grab first and either can be tweaked. Minimize the risk of stowing goods.
     5. When you are moving from one place to another, do not leave before you have everything properly packed and zipped. Having the arms full of things, the portfolio in the mouth and the phone in your hand while trying to text, it means that your attention is not in your environment and the closure of the people - they are a good target.

Can be devastating to find that he has lost valuable personal and business data and projects, but we can do something about it if we choose, we can use our knowledge of the world around us and keep thieves away.
