Old modern Wood Windows restore maintenance

Old windows and energy efficiency are hot topics in popular restoration magazines and among building companies and window manufacturers. I will answer the question: Why homeowners should consider repairing an old wooden windows instead of replacing them with a new modern timber windows or any other windows.

There are not such as maintenance free so people need to consider the best way of saving energy in their homes. Any new windows you put in the house, probably will save a lot of energy. The really good quality windows made from oak wood, window with aluclad and triple glazed filled with argon gas would save a lot of energy and make home really warm in cold winter time, but they are most expensive and not everyone can afford to buy them. But on the other hand you will find that old modern wood windows are not that high quality as old growth wood timber windows. Old growth wood is much more dense. If you look at the growth rims, there are will be from 10-20 growth rims per inch and new wood growth rims are not so dense. You would be lucky if you find 4-5 growth rims. So the new wooden windows does not have such a strength and durability.

Window manufacturers come up only with 10 years warranty. These new windows timber frames are finger joined and might not will last longer than 10 years. And that's the main difference between them to types of wooden windows.

On the other hand, replacing original old wood windows in historic old house, it is like taking the heart out of it and it is almost never needs to be done. So here are the advantages of old windows and this is your choice to decide which option you choose.
