In a recent article that provided information about different types of tiles that are available for remodeling. Now is the time to learn to measure for your tiling project and calculate the cost of tiles and related supplies tiling.
There are different types of tiles, you need your bathroom tile:
Tile field
Trim Tile
Field tile is the main body of the tile for your remodeling project. For example, if you are tiled shower, tile field is of tiles in the shower walls. The tile field covers the largest area of your mosaic project. A common size for tile field is 12 inches by 12 inches. Field tile is sold per square meter, so you need to take the area of the tile field and calculate the square meters.
Trim tile is divided into two categories:
Accent trim tile (to be determined in tile field)
Border tile trim (to end the patchwork of field)
How to Measure
Come with an example to help you go through the process of measuring tiles. In this example we will install a tub with tile surround shower.
For a tub with shower surround, tile must for the three walls. The tile was installed at a height of 6 feet (6 ') over the deck of the tub.
The first wall is 5 feet wide. The two end walls are each 3 feet wide. To determine tile square feet, will have to measure the width of each of the three walls and multiply by the height of the cockpit surround.
Let's start measuring the first wall:
5 'wide (60 inches) by 6' feet high. 5 X 6 = 30 square feet.
Then you need to measure both the end walls:
3 'feet deep (36 ") X 6" tall. 3 X 6 = 18 square feet.
3 'feet deep (36 ") X 6" tall. 3 X 6 = 18 square feet.
So it is necessary to add the measures of the three walls together:
66 square meters of tiles field is required for the shower enclosure.
I advise my clients to account for 20% waste factor when setting tiles. Note the tile can be removed, the tile could be the weekend again many, or many other problems could arise if the short term of the tile to remodel your bathroom. A further 20% tile 66 square meter is equivalent to an additional 13.2 square meters of tiles. I suggest rounding tile to 14 additional square feet for the waste factor.
66 square meters + 14 square meters = 80 square feet of tile field.
You then have to fit the pieces fit to complete the edges of the tiles. The end fitting parts at the edge of the tile that runs horizontally in each of the two walls of bottom and top of the tile in the three walls running vertically. Cut the pieces are sold in meters. Trims typically range from 8 inches to 12 inches long.
In our example, the wall is 5 feet long and two end walls are each 3 feet long. The tile is set 6 feet above the top of the tub deck, the tub is 14 inches tall. Once again, I always round by measuring measuring the next highest of the foot. In this case, I would round up the 14 inch foot measurement immediately above, which is 24 centimeters (2 ft). Add these two steps together:
6 '+ 2' 14 "(rounded) = 8"
Remember, you have to finish the edge of the tile on both walls of the extremes, so you need to twice this measure:
8 '+ 8' = 16 '
In this example, you need 16 '(linear feet) of cutting tiles to finish the edge of the tile for each of the two walls in the background.
Next, you need to fit the top of the tile in the shower enclosure. This is simple, because we already know that the wall is 5 feet long and two end walls are each 3 feet long:
5 '+ 3' + 3 '= 11'
Finally, add the two measurements to determine the linear feet of cut tiles that are needed for the shower enclosure.
16 '+ 11' 27 = 'tile cutting
In addition to the tiles, you should budget for the grout and cement. I budget of $ 1.00 per square foot of tile field was ordered to cover the grout and cement. This method is a quick and easy way to set a budget for the tile and to stay within their overall budget bathroom remodeling.
Now is the time to measure the area that you are installing the tile. These measures will help you learn the cost of a chip that is thinking about installing in your bathroom.
