Optimal treatment for breast cancer

When someone is told he or she has cancer, then it is almost like a death sentence. We all know that cancer survival rate is very low, especially when cancer is detected late. People are afraid of going to the doctor and get checked, because the doctor can find something. But breast cancer and other cancers should not be considered a death sentence, because many people have beaten breast cancer, know what is the best treatment for breast cancer.

We would all like to believe, that our doctors know all the answers and ensure our interests, but this is not the case for most of the time. Doctors have learned to treat cancer with surgery alone, chemotherapy or radiation, but we all know that there are plenty of alternative ways to treat cancer, that have been proven to work.

The best solution would be to find an open-minded doctor, who wants you to get well and is ready to get out of the box. It is impossible for a doctor to learn and know everything about the microbiology, nutrition, neurology, endocrinology, immunology, alternative medicine. All I know is, what you have learned and what they thought.

The average doctor has learned to treat the symptoms of cancer with synthetic drugs from pharmaceutical companies. That's what they do and if we take into account that doctors and very busy and really have little time to spend with the patient, the end result is often very poor.

The same patient also has to do a lot of research and not expect the doctor to know everything. If you have cancer and your life is at stake, your goal should be to look for different cancer treatments and find out what kind of people who used to beat cancer treatments. The more options you have available, the best treatment for breast cancer can have.

The mother-daughter relationship in breast cancer

Did you know that breast cancer or ovarian cancer can be inherited? In fact, there are 500,000 women in the U.S. who have a genetic mutation that puts them at risk for breast cancer and ovarian cancer (HBOC).

"All cancer involves changes in genes called mutations. However, in most people, these changes occur after birth, usually later in life and only a limited number of body cells. Cancer Hereditary refers to cancer that is caused by a mutation that is present at birth and in all body cells. This gene change makes individuals more likely to develop cancer in their lifetime, but definitely does not mean it will develop disease. Certain types of cancers, including breast, ovarian and colon, are more likely than others to be hereditary. "

Some inherited mutations or changes in genes linked to breast cancer have been identified. The two most common are BRCA1 and BRCA2 (breast cancer 1 and breast cancer 2). Blood tests are available to determine if someone brings one or both of these two changes in the genes.

If you have a mother who was diagnosed with breast cancer, get tested for BRCA1 and BRCA2. Although not much can you can do on their genetic history, there are some things you can change your lifestyle.

* Eating raw nuts. The nuts contain compounds that reduce the risk of breast cancer. Molecular analysis showed that increased consumption of omega-3 fatty acids contributed to the decreased incidence of tumors, but other parts of the nut also contributed.

* Keep your weight under control. A study of cancer among overweight people in Europe found that the proportion of new cases of illness caused by people being fat was higher in women. Types of cancer most common cancers associated with excess weight endometrial, breast and colorectal. How in the daily exercise can also protect and reduce your risk of cancer.

* Diet linked to survival in patients with breast cancer. A study published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology 2008 December found that women with higher intake of healthier foods were about half as likely to die during the study period, women with the lowest intakes, including with other important factors that has taken into account - as the initial size of breast tumor, type of treatment and smoking habits of patients.

* Herbs and spices fight cancer compounds. Various herbs and spices have been compared with the effective anti-cancer drugs. Be sure to add these six herbs to your diet: turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, lips that include mint, thyme, marjoram, oregano and basil, apiums include celery root and parsley, and Alliums include garlic, onions, leeks, onion and chives.

* Breastfeeding cuts breast cancer in women at high risk for fifty-nine percent. The new study, published in the journal Archives of Internal Medicine, used information from 60,075 participants in the Nurses 'Health Harvard second' Health Study. If your mother has breast cancer, you may want to consider the benefits of breastfeeding. Certain types of breast cancer may be less frequent among women who breastfeed their babies for at least six months.

If you have a family history of breast cancer, making these simple steps towards a healthier lifestyle can help reduce the chances in life.

Signs and symptoms of breast cancer

It is very important for each and every one of us to know the signs and symptoms of breast cancer so we know what's going to be possible and more effective to overcome that. However, the particular sign, first symptom of this type of disease is a tumor that is different from the surrounding tissue around the breast. It is said that if a woman feels a lump in her breast, then it is a cancer, more than 80% of breast cancers are discovered in this way, this is based on the Merck Manual. And the first goal of the medical indications or signs of breast cancer is discovered by mammogram or detected by a doctor. Lymph nodes in the armpit is where the packages and / or collarbone can also be a sign of breast cancer.

Signs and symptoms of breast cancer than a lump may include changes in breast size and shape of the breast, also appear dimpled skin, nipple inversion, or a single discharge nipple that is spontaneous. Pain is not a reliable tool for determining the presence or absence of breast cancer but may also be a sign of breast cancer-related health problems such as mastodynia.

If a breast-cancer cells into the dermis lymph by force, small lymph vessels in the skin of the breast, inflammatory breast cancer is the inflammation that resembles the presentation of the skin. Signs and symptoms of inflammatory breast cancer include pain, swelling of the breast, especially the heat and redness of the breast and skin texture that looks like an orange peel and it's called or known as "orange peel "

Another symptom complex reporting on this type of disease is Paget's disease of the breast. And this condition is known as the eczamatoid, thus, skin color changes, which will be red and the nipple skin peeling have a light texture. Paget's disease with advanced breast, signs may include itching and increased sensitivity of skin, burning and will be painful too. Nipple discharge may occur. In fact, almost half of women who are diagnosed with Paget also suffer from breast lump.

Cancer that extends beyond the original organ is metastatic disease. Metastatic breast cancer can cause signs and symptoms depending on the location of metastasis. Commonplace of metastasis may be found in bone, liver, lungs and brain. Unexplained weight loss that can sometimes be an indication of disease, symptoms can also be determined as fever and chills. In addition, a bone and joint pains can sometimes be a sign, as well as jaundice or neurological signs. But the signs are so specific, because it can also be a sign and symptom of other diseases.

Always remember that most of the signs and symptoms of breast disorder is not really the best representation. Adenoma of the mastitis and fibrosis of the breast are benign breast disease and are the most common causes and signs of breast disorder. And the patient and the physician should take seriously the redevelopment of the signs and symptoms that may occur because there may be cases where breast disease can occur at too early an age.

5 things you can do to breast cancer

When someone you love is diagnosed with breast cancer, which can be devastating. You shake your whole life. You have no idea what to do, what to say or how to help. You want to help, but honestly and really have no idea what to do. You're afraid to do wrong. Unfortunately, this lack of action leaves the breast cancer patients in a situation where basic needs are not covered. She is left in a place where you feel uncomfortable asking for help and is too tired to do it herself. Here are five things you can do to help someone you know is fighting breast cancer.

# 1 set a Visa Money

A number of Visa cash card allows people to donate money to cover expenses. Believe it or not, the gas money adds up fast. Doctor visits, fast food and lots of other little things that add up. For those who do not know what to do, add funds to a Visa card really helps.

# 2 Establish a volunteer program

Many times, the cleaning has a tape recorder back to doctor visits and chemotherapy. Someone needs to step up and take charge of people willing to volunteer. If people are willing to volunteer to clean, cook and babysitting, a program needs to be done and the patient with breast cancer should not be left in charge.

# 3 Leave the stories of death's door

No matter how many people know who have died of cancer, keep it to yourself. While you may think this is useful, this is not the time to share your story. We know you are trying to relate what the breast cancer patient is going through, but if you knew how the stories of the death of many breast cancer patients have to hear that you understand.

# 4 Do not Take It Personal

All experience is an emotional roller coaster. Sometimes, the cancer patient can mourn and cry. Other times, the cancer patient can laugh and laugh. No matter how does the cancer patient, please remember this is a tough time and have nothing to say in person. Many times, it is nothing more than a lack of sleep.

# 5 Books, books and more books

More likely is that the breast cancer patient will spend much time waiting. They will have some books, magazines, games or whatever else you can think of passing the time. This is another reason why Visa cash card comes in handy. Find out what they like and get plenty of it. Remember, this is only a short period of time and get through it. Help in any way you can. It's worth at the end. In a year or two, all this will be a memory that will live to tell.

Signs of breast cancer - Know before it's too late

One of the main reasons that most breast cancer patients do not survive this treatment because they know they have this illness in the first place. Because of this, they were unable to undergo treatment in order to stop the growth of early cancer. With this the following are signs of breast cancer should be taken into account.

The most common signs of breast cancer are lumps that you can feel when they have been doing some self examination breast. The doctors will be able to feel this time that your doctor does a physical examination that during his physical. Once you have felt a lump, it will have to test to see if a tumor is malignant or benign. Nevertheless, physicians can check out on the growth of breast masses through routine mammograms. Thus, we could see if there are some malignancies that can not feel my hand.

Other signs you should look out for in your breast size and shape. With this, you can try to suspect that the immediate change could be caused by cancer cells growing in their breasts. Apart from this, the skin of the breast should also be checked for any markings or dimpling.

Aside from just the breast itself, the teats should also be checked. One of the common signs of the nipples is your investment. Once he realized that there is this change in the nipple, you should start talking to your doctor immediately. Apart from that you should take note of the nipple discharge.

Other symptoms may include Paget's disease. The symptoms of this disease are eczema type symptoms such as redness, itching and burning and tingling, even some. This can be assumed that the symptoms may be just the regular eczema. However, there are cases where women with this disease also have breast lumps.

Because breast cancer is a type of cancer, you may also consider other cancer symptoms such as unexplained weight loss, swollen lymph nodes and even joint pain as related to the disease.

Once one or more of these symptoms have been detected, is very important that people have these checked immediately in order to do good work up. Note that these symptoms may be indicative not only of cancer but also other diseases. And the chest of specific symptoms can also be an indication of benign breast disease. Through testing and early detection may be submitted to treatments that prevent the mass growth or spread of cancer cells and thus prevent grow to the next level. This will help women survive breast disease.

In general, these signs of breast cancer should be known by all and it would be able to stop this disease affects a number of women in the country through the first few treatments.

Breast Cancer and Breast Health - take action now to avoid being a statistic

For fifteen years I worked as a professional educator. In 5 of those years I worked in a healthcare organization. One of the most talked about topics is the breast cancer and breast health. The conclusion is that although breast cancer is not preventable, it is usually easily detectable.

Note: Breast cancer is not race specific - all races for breast cancer!

Note: Breast cancer is not gender specific - men breast cancer too!

When breast cancer is detected in the early stages of the chances of survival are very high. Please do not add yourself or a friend or loved one to the growing list of statistics. Take action today! Here is a simple action plan of steps to help some with the early detection of breast cancer.

First part: regular mammograms

Ladies, this is the most important part of maintaining good breast health: regular mammograms. Mammograms are quick, simple X-rays similar to X-rays received in his visit to a dentist. In fact, mammograms actually use less radiation than a dental x-ray!

Mammograms show light years in terms of cancer treatment, because it can detect breast cancer long before you or your doctor could physically feel a lump in the breast. Because early detection is the key to survival, it is necessary to schedule regular mammograms.

The American Cancer Society recommends regular mammograms for all women from age 40. If you have a family history of breast cancer, your doctor may want you to start a program of screening mammography sooner.

The older you get, the greater the likelihood of breast cancer. Over 75% of all breast cancers occur in women who are 50 years or more. Over 50% of all breast cancers occur in women who are 65 years or more.

Ladies - Listen! Have regular mammograms! Please! For the sake of your family and friends who love you, schedule an annual mammogram if you are 40 or older or have a family history of breast cancer.

Part II: Clinical breast exam

Only your doctor or nurse will perform a clinical breast exam for you. All women between 20 and 30 should have a clinical breast exam as part of their annual checkups at least every 3 years. After age 40, this should be done every year without fail.

What happens in a clinical breast exam?

The doctor or nurse will take your personal medical history by asking a series of questions on health history. This will include questions on family history. Then the doctor or nurse will examine your breasts while you stand in front of a mirror with your hands on your hips. Finally, the doctor or nurse physically examining your entire breast to the neck, armpit, chest and center bottom of the ribcage. Finally, speaking of adequate maternal health with you and show how to perform breast self-examination. The whole process can take up to 10 minutes. Rarely is less than 5 minutes.

Part Three: breast self-examination

It is necessary to become familiar with their breasts regularly for appearance that you are aware of the changes from normal. If you notice changes, tell your doctor immediately.

One of the most important steps you can take is to perform a monthly breast self exams. An easy way to remember to do this is to see while taking a shower. Some organizations even a shower card can hang on your shower with punch holes for each month, so you can easily follow when one has done their exams.

Remember that you need for the physical exam her breasts with his hand and look in the mirror of the visible changes. If you think you've found a lump or significant change, notify your doctor immediately.

Most breast tumors are not cancer, but did not know until you ask and that must be verified.

Take Action Now!

Start your plan regularly breast health today, including regular mammograms, clinical breast exams and monthly self-exams. When breast cancer is diagnosed in the early stages survival rates are higher. Take action now - for you, your friends and family that I love you!

Signs and symptoms of bladder cancer

By now you probably know that the cancer or malignant tumor, can affect any part of the body. By definition, cancer occurs when healthy cells multiply at an abnormal rate and almost unstoppable, beating out the tissues and organs, and travel through the lymphatic system that affect other body parts.

To this day, cancer is an uncomfortable subject for most people, however, more people are diagnosed and die each year. Cancer develops as a result of exposure to toxins such as pollution or radiation, or as the result of poor lifestyle choices like smoking and poor diets. And despite major medical advancements in the treatment of cancer remains the leading cause of death.

The bladder is the fifth most common area with cancer. There are five common symptoms associated with bladder cancer you should know.

1. Blood-tinged urine.

2. Pain in bladder area.

3. Feeling the urge to urinate but unable to do so.

4. Burning sensation when urinating.

5. Being unable to hold a normal amount of urine.

Of course, the symptoms may be caused by other diseases, but if you experience any of these problems, you should consult with your doctor as soon as possible. Your provider may order a series of tests to determine the root cause of symptoms.

Your doctor will probably check first blood in the urine. Normally, a doctor uses a microscope to see the red blood cells in urine, sometimes the blood will be visible without a microscope.

An intravenous pyelogram, or IVP, is a test to detect tumors or abnormalities in the bladder. During an IVP, a tincture of iodine is injected into the body and bladder with an x-ray scanner.

A cystoscope, a small lighted tube, inserted into the bladder through the urethra can be used to look for tumors or abnormal tissues.

And if an abnormality is detected, the doctor will have to use a CT scan to see if the cancer has spread.

Treatment options for people with bladder cancer vary depending on the stage of cancer, patient's age and general health. Typical treatment options include chemotherapy and radiotherapy, surgery for tumor removal, and biological therapy.

As with any cancer, early detection and treatment necessary to ensure recovery and reduce the chances of the cancer spreading. Protect yourself: Ask your doctor immediately if you experience symptoms or signs of bladder cancer.

Human Rights Watch slams bill Uganda AIDS

Human Rights Watch criticized Friday in Uganda HIV / bill AIDS, some of whose provisions call for mandatory testing of pregnant women, sex offenders and victims, and disclosure of HIV status.

The New York-based group said the bill "promotes dangerous and discredited approaches to the AIDS epidemic.

HIV and AIDS Prevention and Control Bill also requires that a person convicted of prostitution, drug use or possession of hypodermic needles being tested for HIV for purposes of criminal investigation.

Pregnant women and their partners "be subject" to the routine tests, but the law does not state whether consent is required.

Any person who fails to inform his sexual partner of their HIV status will be fined or imprisoned, and the bill criminalizes the intentional transmission of HIV.

HRW said it would be difficult or impossible to determine who infected who in a court of law and ignorance that makes the state itself for effective defense.

The group however, praised the terms of the latest version of the bill that protect against discrimination and violation of confidentiality.

Human rights group wary of the law of Uganda AIDS test

Human rights activists warned yesterday that there could be a resurgence of AIDS in Uganda, where a new law which they say is deficient in force in the African nation.

HIV in Uganda, AIDS prevention and control law, currently being debated by lawmakers that the mandate of testing for the disease but do not protect against discrimination or confidentiality of Human Rights Watch said in a statement.

"These provisions will ultimately prove counterproductive for reducing the burden of the HIV epidemic in the country," the statement said.

Human Rights Watch found evidence that focuses on alleged offenders, in particular, will be perceived as a coercive act that Ugandans will probably think twice before participating.

The measure requires the confidentiality of test results, but said Human Rights Watch is concerned that there are loopholes that ultimately could expose HIV-positive discrimination and even violent reprisals on the part of sexual partners.

The organization said that Uganda has made great progress against the disease in recent years, partly because the policies that the commitment of the community and encourage open discussion about AIDS. The new law, warned would "undermine the progress that Uganda was done in the last decade to respond effectively to the epidemic."

Obesity is responsible for 100,000 cases of cancer per year

Over 100,000 cancer cases each year are caused by excess body fat, according to a report published on Thursday in Washington.

Researchers at the American Institute for Cancer Research looked at the seven cancers with known links to obesity and estimated counts of actual cases that could have been caused by obesity.

Specifically, the report says that 49 percent of endometrial cancers are caused by excess body fat. That number is followed by a 35 per cent of cases of esophageal cancer, 28 per cent of cases of pancreatic cancer, 24 per cent of cases of kidney cancer, 21 percent of cancer cases gallbladder, 17 percent of breast cancers, and 9 percent of colorectal cancers.

"This is the first time we have real, measurable in the number of cancers related to obesity," said Glen Weldon, the American Institute for Cancer director of educational research. Also, he said, is not only cancer that is causing a problem.

"Obesity not only increases the risk of cancer," said Weldon. "It also has a negative effect on survival and may make treatment more difficult."

Although there is no specific science about why obesity increases a person's risk for cancer, scientists speculate that the estrogen released by excess body fat could be the culprit of cancers such as estrogen-receptor positive cancer breast.

Studies have also shown that increasing fat may lead to increased levels of oxidative stress and inflammatory compounds in the blood, which are related to DNA mutations and the growth of diseased cells, as seen in many cancers.

The American Cancer Society applauded the new research, but said the report is just the first step.

"It helps to communicate the magnitude of the problem," said Dr. Michael Thun, vice president emeritus of the American Cancer Society.

"While the study refers to the magnitude of the problem, which suggests possible solutions. The bottom line for people concerned about this issue is to try to balance the calories you eat with your body spends each day."

In addition to cancer, obesity is a known cause of heart disease, diabetes, hypertension and stroke.

prostate cancer screening

As cancer surgeons, we witness the fear and anxiety that we create when we tell patients they may have cancer. This fear is understandable, since cancer can be a deadly disease. Options for therapy and treatments can be overwhelming emotionally and physically demanding. We want to use every tool at our disposal to minimize the impact of cancer and maximize the chances of a good result. Cancer screening is a tool like this, but it needs to be used with caution, and the results should be interpreted with caution.

We recently posted a review (JAMA October 21, 2009), the current impact of screening for breast cancer and prostate cancer and found significant room for improvement. Consideration has led to an increase of cancers detected, many of which are not life threatening, and we have not been as successful as hoped in preventing cancer in advanced stages. We are not proposing that we stop screening all we are saying we can and must do better.

The screening is complex because cancer is complex. Not all cancers of the breast cancers or prostate behave the same, and as a result, some people benefit more than others to control. Detection is more effective for moderate to slow-growing tumors or removal of a precancerous condition prevents the disease, such as cervical cancer and colon cancer. For fast-growing or very aggressive tumors, the traditional selection may not be able to help, as these types of tumors have a significant risk, even when they are small and seem curable. For slow-growing tumors, early detection will not make much or any difference.

Therefore breast cancer and prostate cancer, we have substantially increased the risk of being diagnosed with a slow-growing tumor could never have come to the attention in the absence of control, leading people to think they have cancer when no murderer do. In this situation, we may be doing damage and creating anxiety, which often leads to more aggressive treatment options. The more (public and doctors) are aware of the limitations of mammography and PSA testing, the better we can adapt the recommendations of detection, the use of detection results in a prudent manner and provide appropriate options for our patients.

Importantly, proposes a strategy for moving forward. First, we must focus on understanding who is at risk for developing more aggressive cancers and testing of new drugs aimed at improving the treatment and prevention. We must also be aware that the more aggressive cancers can appear as lumps or elevated PSA between normal screens, and not ignore symptoms just because there has been a recent normal screening test.

Second, we must use the tools available (and develop new ones) to determine the aggressiveness of the cancers at diagnosis. This will help patients and doctors have conversations weighing the risks and benefits of interventions, and lead to new tests designed to help secure some patients give up treatment.

Third, we must think about prevention. Our concept of screening should include the use of tools to identify what is the risk that a person has of developing cancer. For prostate cancer, online tools such as Calculator prostate cancer risk, not only predicts the risk of cancer, but the risk to high-grade disease. When high-prevention interventions, such as finasteride should be discussed not only the PSA screening. For breast cancer there are a number of risk models that we use today to help patients and physicians think about the options available medical and surgical prevention and a more intensive and frequent surveillance for those at highest risk.

We may also use risk assessment tools to identify individuals unlikely to benefit from screening, they must avoid detection. In women older than 70, for example, there is no evidence that mammography saves lives, as most of these women often develop less aggressive tumors or inactive. Our advice to women in this age group is to continue to do breast exams, and to seek medical attention if you find a lump. Men and their physicians can use the calculator prostate cancer risk to inform their decision about whether to get a PSA test as well.

Finally, we need a concerted national effort to invest in long-term large-scale studies and demonstration projects to accelerate the pace of learning for the detection and prevention. We all will welcome the day of detection and treatment options are more personalized and effective and less women and men face the phrase "may have cancer."

Dealing with the complexities of honesty detection will lead to more choice for our patients and make tomorrow better care than it is today.

Exercise cuts risk of prostate cancer

A new study suggests that men who consumed moderate amounts of regular exercise can reduce your risk of prostate cancer, including the type of compound aggressive, rapidly growing tumors.

The study, published in the November 2009 edition of the Journal of Urology, showed prostate cancer was less likely to be diagnosed in men who exercise regularly than those who were sedentary.

Dr. Stephen J. Freedland and a team of colleagues at the Duke University Prostate Center and the VA Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina analyzed data from 190 men who underwent prostate biopsies and found suspected association.

They found that patients who exercised moderately, or those who participate in three to six hours of walking each week, were two thirds less likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer than their sedentary counterparts.

Of 111 men who had followed a sedentary lifestyle in the study, about 50 percent were diagnosed with the disease compared with 27 percent of those in a grade equivalent of three to six hours of walking a week.

The researchers also found that men who received the amount of exercise equivalent to walking three hours a week were 86 percent less likely to develop an aggressive form of cancer.

Of the men diagnosed with prostate cancer, aggressive cancer was found in 51 percent of those who lived a sedentary lifestyle and only 22 percent in those who were physically active - the equivalent of one to three hours every week running .

The study found an association between exercise and reduced risk of prostate cancer. But the results do not prove that exercise is the cause of the decline in male reproductive cancers, however, the possibility can not be excluded.

Exercise or physical activity has been associated with reduced risk of cancer in general, not just prostate cancer. One possibility is that exercise can follow a healthy lifestyle that includes a healthy diet.

However, exercise alone can potentially have a protective effect against prostate cancer and possibly other cancers.

To say the least, has been known that exercise lowers the levels of sex hormones like testosterone and others that are known to promote prostate cancer growth. Exercise may also boost immunity and fight against the body of the oxidation mechanisms that can help reduce the chances of men acquiring prostate cancer.

A recent study published on Oct 27, 2009 in the online British Journal of Cancer, also suggests that physical activity can help reduce the risk of prostate cancer.

The study, led by N. Orsini, of the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden and colleagues found an inverse association between physical activity like walking or cycling, and reduced risk of prostate cancer.

Orsini and colleagues analyzed data from a cohort of 45,887 men ages 45 to 79 years, researchers tracked between January 1998 and December 2007, the confirmation of the incidence of prostate cancer. They also evaluated patients between 1998 and December 2006, and its subtypes of fatal prostate cancer.

During follow-up, 2735 cases of prostate cancer and 190 prostate cancer cases were fatal.

The researchers tracked the incidence of prostate cancer in the upper quartile of the life of total physical activity was reduced by 16% compared with the lowest quartile. A similar inverse association was also found between the job for half-life or work and walking or biking the length and prostate cancer risk.

Compared with those who were forced to sit for most of their working day, the men who sit only half the time experienced a risk reduction of 20%.

For every 30 minutes a day of increased walking or cycling lifetime in the range of 30 to 120 minutes per day, the risk of total prostate cancer decreased by 7 percent for localized prostate cancer by 8 percent and for advanced prostate cancer by 12 percent.

An estimated 192,280 U.S. men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2009. The disease is expected to kill 27,360 men in the country this year, according to the National Cancer Institute.

Aspirin may prevent prostate cancer recurrence

The use of anticoagulant drugs such as aspirin appears to reduce the likelihood that cancer will recur in men undergoing radiation treatment for prostate cancer, researchers report.

"We have found that taking an anticoagulant reduces the risk [of recurrence] by almost half," said Kevin S. Choe, MD, PhD, a radiation oncologist at the University of Chicago.

Anticoagulant drugs, or anticoagulants were studied Coumadin, Plavix and aspirin.

"Prostate cancer is very common among older men, the same people who have cardiovascular risk factors and often require blood thinners to prevent a heart attack," he tells WebMD Choe. "So I wanted to see if there was an interaction between the two."

Animal research and laboratory suggests that anticoagulant drugs may interfere with tumor growth and spread of cancer, Choe says.

Furthermore, research suggests that drugs can cause molecular changes that make cancer cells more sensitive to radiation, says Alan, University of Miami, Pollack, MD, PhD, who was not involved with the work.

The findings were presented at the annual meeting of the American Society of Radiation Oncology.
Anticoagulant medications reduce the risk of prostate cancer recurrence

The study included 662 men with prostate cancer undergoing radiation treatment at the University of Chicago from 1988 to 2005.

Of the total, 196 were taking aspirin, 58 were taking Coumadin, and 24 were in Plavix. The other men were not taking any anticoagulant medication.

Some four years after they are treated, cancer recurrence in only 9% of men taking an anticoagulant drug, compared with 22% of those who were not taking medications.

After taking into account other risk factors for recurrence, taking an anticoagulant medication was associated with a 46% lower risk of recurrence, Choe says.

The benefit was more pronounced in men at high risk for aggressive cancer that had not yet spread (metastasis) at the time of radiation treatment. In this group, cancer was repeated in 18% of men treated with anticoagulants compared to 42% of men do not take drugs.

Cancer recurrence was defined as an increase in levels of prostate specific antigen, or PSA. After radiation therapy, PSA level usually drops to a low stable level. Increased PSA levels are usually a sign of recurrence, Choe says.

Benefited anticoagulant drugs and men, regardless of whether they received traditional external beam radiation therapy or radioactive seeds. The study included men who received new forms of radiation therapy such as proton therapy.

The researchers analyzed the three drugs separately.

Choe notes that men with prostate cancer should not start taking anticoagulant drugs for cancer control purposes.

The drugs have risks of their own, including internal bleeding, he says. Choe previous investigation showed that Plavix Coumadin and increase the risk of rectal bleeding in men undergoing radiation treatment.

"We need more data from a larger study before we can say with confidence that the benefits outweigh the risk of toxicity," he says.

But if your doctor has prescribed the drug for health reasons of the heart, "this may be an added benefit," says Choe.

Natural Cancer Treatment

Natural Cancer Treatment
There is much passing reference to the need to eat more vegetables to prevent cancer, but beyond the insistence of some members of staff health promotion appears to be little written in the press of detailed information to all. In addition to this, or perhaps because of the simplistic message that is out there, many physicians still fail to recognize the importance of diet in relation both to reduce the chances that the disease occurs but also in the care of Patients who already have cancer. They do not recognize that good nutrition is a natural treatment.

Many physicians are committed to the rapid effects of antibiotics. That really, really want every drug to be as effective as when antibiotics were first used. And if food can not give such an effect with most people then a good number of them dismiss the impact of food as "not really important."

However, there are many drugs that are not very effective. For example, chemotherapy increases overall survival at 5 years of stage just over 2%, which is ineffective in many cancers, despite their continued use. With this in mind, any "natural" activity without negative side effects are embraced with open arms.

There are many foods that have been shown in epidemiological studies to reduce the chances of getting cancer by 25%, 50%, 75% and sometimes even more when comparing groups with high consumption of low power groups.

There are foods that seem to prevent the mutant cells in cancer cells. There are foods that stimulate the mutated cells to die. There are foods that stop the growth of cancer cells or slow growth and food that prevent cancer cells throughout the body movement. In food biomedical words can be antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-mutagenic, stimulate apoptosis, cytotoxic, with antimetastatic effect. Of course not all fruits and vegetables have all these effects, but they have enough to be useful.

So fruits and vegetables are most important? I urge you to go for variety and not get stuck in thinking that one or two will suffice. The plants act synergistically. That is, it works best when you eat a number of them together.

That said, the family of the onion was reported that some of the strongest effects in cancer prevention. As trawl through medical literature had a strong interest in tomatoes and cruciferous vegetables, but when I compared the numbers in the studies that seemed the onion, garlic and other allium family in (such as leeks and onions) had the highest efficiency.

The tomatoes were good, and so are the cruciferous vegetables - cabbage, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, arugula, beet greens, bok choy, brussels sprouts, kale, cress, radish, kale, kohlrabi, radishes, turnips, beets and turnips.

Lettuce, carrots, summer squash and winter, oranges, lemons, blueberries, black raspberries, grapes, cucurmin (of fame curry) and herbs (like oregano, rosemary and thyme) have shown improved immune function and are associated with reduced incidence of cancer in epidemiological studies.

So what does this mean in practice? Ideally, fresh fruit and vegetables should be part of every meal. If you can not eat three meals a day, and then solve the fruits and vegetables, taking three quarters of your plate in two meals each day.

We're talking about eating - this is not medicine, unless these foods to do well. It is important to choose foods you enjoy. I really do not like curry or pepper. I do not do well in Indian food, so do not eat it very often. I grew up in northern European food and really enjoy the fruits and vegetables has eaten my family for generations. So start by eating fruits and vegetables to enjoy, after a bit of variety and taste some that are new to you.

If you are married and chips, burgers and food packages that could take a little getting used to having three-quarters of your plate with fresh vegetables (cooked and uncooked) fruit for dessert, but give it a try. It may take a few weeks for your body to develop the enzymes needed to digest his new diet, but once your body has gone I love you for this change. And as natural cancer treatment is pleasant and not cost more than other types of food.

When lung cancer is not detected early, then in most cases the patient ends up dying sooner or alter. The last moments of a cancer patient is always very painful. But if this really so? Is chemotherapy treatment for lung cancer is the best option?

We would all like to think that doctors look out for our interest and use treatments that are most effective. But unfortunately this is not the case, especially when it comes to treating cancer. The reason is very simple - money. Pharmaceutical companies make huge profits selling drugs and other less costly methods such as natural cures and alternative treatments would reduce their profits quickly.

These days you can find advertisements of medicines everywhere is all about the benefits and effectiveness of these drugs does not really matter. In 2001, various pharmaceutical companies grew from $ 15.7 million on television and print ads. The message of these ads are very simple, "has a problem, take drugs."

No one tells us to eat healthy, get the vitamins and minerals and exercise regularly. Each person who has lung cancer, or want to know more about alternative cancer treatment, you have to do your own research. There are a lot of vitamins, very simple and effective, minerals and supplements, which help us fight cancer and other diseases, much more effective than chemotherapy may never.

Health insurance plans for people from California

Those who are seeking information about Medicare supplemental insurance can be benefited by going through this page. Alone with the other places, the people of California can also choose their Medigap insurance plans that depends on your need and eligibility. Insurance companies Medicare supplement insurance in California offers two different plans. The first is the individual Medicare plan and the other is the group's Medicare plan. Individual plans are used individually or in selected major medical expenses. However, the group plan is designed for those who belong to one group. Mainly this type of plan are appropriate for employees to opt for business. Medicare supplemental insurance are planned to cover many people at a time like employees and their families together. The plan is also suitable for one family, although it may be a little expensive full.

However, individual health insurance plans to look cheaper than the group plan in general. While it is estimated correctly, it seems that the group plans cost less than the individual plan. Besides, the member of the same group insurance plan may pay Medicare premiums, also in the group, which is another advantage of the type of plan. In general, the company pays a portion of insurance on behalf of its employees and a part of the insurance amount is paid by employers. The whole system makes the interesting plan.

There are other Medicare insurance plan available exclusively for the people of California that is called Cal-COBRA. Although the plan is a bit expensive mode of payment of the premium is still attractive to the group of Medicare plans. However, it is cheaper than the individual plan. Includes some former partners of employees, along with covering retirees, spouses, former spouses and children also depends on the temporary continuation, which is designed so that just as the Medicare insurance plan. The plan can cover two to nineteen employees at a time and also covers half the percentage of working days. The company as an individual authority is responsible for paying the premium here and not the workers themselves is another charming offer proposed in the plan.

However, in general, most insurance companies Medicare does not pay the medical expenses of a combined treatment, only a part of it. The part that is covered by Medicare plans depends on the agreement that is made at the time of purchase. It is better to buy a group health plan, including the family, because it helps lower the rate of complete treatment and demonstrates its effectiveness in the long term. Another issue is advisable to go to Medicare supplemental insurance, with the primary plan, so that the party is not covered by primary insurance plan may be covered by the supplement. Although it sounds expensive, is very useful in case of serious charges. For details on this issue can contact your local group advisors welfare or medical advisors. Another source of information on all Medicare supplement insurance is to websites and web pages available on the web.

The road to successful mesothelioma compensation

The number of cases of mesothelioma and other related compensation claims now circulating in the courts is quite disconcerting, and shows what a high level of exposure to asbestos products throughout society underwent during the last century. In fact, unfortunately there are still asbestos installations that dot the country, either at home or on the insulation people's flat or perhaps in public. As we all know, mesothelioma could remain a major threat to our health way beyond the point when the generation that shipbuilding in the 1940s has passed to posterity. In any case, it is important to have a clear idea of how to go about seeking compensation for mesothelioma, so that people charged with intentionally exposing generations of people to a dangerous substance dead paying for all the damage they have done to families and communities around the country (indeed, this is a global problem).

As with almost any subject that takes you in court, it is essential to educate yourself as to the rules to play: what are the limitations of time, which is available to help, and what possibilities are opened to promote such claims compensation. Fortunately for mesothelioma patients and their families, the question has taken on such enormous proportions that the lawyer for mesothelioma and many law firms now have mesothelioma really present in their minds and are more willing to take on such cases.

However, patients with mesothelioma and their families should take everything with a touch of suspicion, given the high $ accompanying such cases. Where and when it is clear that a profile certain'case 'is probably going to land a lawyer or a signature of a wad of cash, it is likely that many scavengers and fewer professional people and businesses will come to stalking. Therefore, patients and their families (which is making an effort to advance a claim for compensation) should go to some length to make sure they hire legal counsel essentially has the experience, understanding and a good record in terms case management of mesothelioma.

Do not settle for any lawyer only: Confirm that you are treated fairly (that's the whole point here, right?). Ask some affidavit relating to previous cases in this particular field, ask about the results of previous cases and the reasons for any of them do not end on a positive outcome for the family and the victim (this is the case ). Learning from past experience, the lawyer, or were not successful or not. Similarly, when you feel that there is a satisfactory reason to trust in a specific legal representative, ask for their frank and honest assessment of whether it is necessary to proceed with legal action, that is to claim what you think you have a good chance of winning the case or, at best, get settled?

As will be seen as progress on the issue, timing and good communication can make the final difference in these legal battles. It is no use waiting to take their claims to court: in fact, there are principles of the limitations of the regulation of matters like this, and if passed the allotted time period without taking the matter to court have been lost entirely his chance. Equally important is the issue of communication: once you choose an attorney you can trust, it has nothing to them, even the smallest detail.

Again on the legal question of what to recommend to accept, be sure that you do not have to pay anything in advance, not even a penny. This is standard practice in such cases and the term used in legal jargon is illustration'on contingency basis, which effectively implies that if you end up getting compensated counsel only then be ready to take their cut . Therefore, if wage a long and exhausting legal battle behind only upset and defeated, at least you will not have to pay for yourself and you can still feel it was worth the effort.

Ask your lawyer mesothelioma and talk with others who have been in your situation before) as to which particular legal course to take. There are different ways to seek compensation, and wants to know what is best for you: you can sue your employer if they were really the fault of his statement, or you can sue a manufacturer or even in some cases, a governmental entity one level or another competition. Ensure that, in the case that they are implementing a series of claims, none of them interfere with each other or decrease your chances of obtaining a favorable outcome is to recognize when the battle to choose.

Breast cancer - Reduce the risk with Omega 3 fish oil supplements

Cancer is second to heart disease as a cause of death in the U.S.. For women, breast and colorectal cancer are the second most common cause of death among cancer patients. Studies suggest that the use of supplements of Omega 3 fish oil may reduce cancer risk.

The investigation of dietary factors that affect cancer has shown that increased consumption of fish over the meat can reduce the possibility of developing these cancers. This was attributed to omega 3 fatty acids found in fish.

Fish and fish oil contain rich amounts of Omega 3 fatty acids EPA and DHA. These fatty acids appear to reduce the risk of developing cancer.

Omega 3 EPA and DHA are called essential fatty acids. This means that are necessary for good health of the human body. However, the human body can not manufacture these fatty acids that must be included in the diet.

Fish is an excellent source of Omega 3 fatty acids. In contrast beef fat contains more Omega 6 than offset the effect of omega 3.

Research on the balance of Omega 3 and Omega 6 fats has shown that the ratio of these fats in the diet should be as close to one by one, possible. However, in most Western countries where more meat than fish consumed the relationship can be as high as thirty to one. This unhealthy relationship is a possible contributor to increased risk of cancer among Western countries. Countries in which the diet contains more fish, less risk of cancer.

Cold water fatty fish like salmon, sardines and tuna are excellent sources of omega 3. Vegetarian sources include flax seeds and nuts such as walnuts. Eat two servings of fish a week has been shown to significantly reduce the risk of cancer.

Where the fish are not available or if there is resistance to eating more fish taking Omega 3 fish oil capsules can provide the Omega 3 fats needed to reduce cancer incidence.

These capsules are made from crude fish oil using a process called molecular distillation which removes contaminants such as mercury and heavy metals that are also health risks. The final product is highly concentrated and rich in Omega 3 healthy fats.

Taking Omega 3 fish oil capsules is not a short-term quick fix but a long-term investment in good health. There are many other benefits of taking supplements of Omega 3 fish oil. Start today to invest in their own good health.

Combating long battle with mesothelioma treatment

The history of mesothelioma asbestos diseases in general, is one of the darkest chapters and more troublesome in recent history. Mesothelioma is a cancer that is almost exclusively associated with asbestos exposure, something that almost everyone living in the better half of the twentieth century is likely to have had. People of all backgrounds have fallen ill with mesothelioma: from the movie by the powerful political actors to normal workersnobody worker is immune to the condition and almost everyone during the thirty years of age (and many below that age) has remained at risk of contracting this devitalising, deadly disease.

Collective experience with mesothelioma has brought out the best and worst of people is why there are lawyer mesothelioma in the second case, as a society have come to witness another test case in which the promise of profits has led to individuals or companies disregard the safety of others (sometimes their own employees or community members) in pursuit of that reward.

What is clear at this point, an unfortunate fact that, many decades, surprisingly, it was clear again that people have not found it very important "is that entire generations of Americans and people of other nationalities through the developed and developing countries are exposed to asbestos, even though the scientific evidence on the table indicating that the material was linked to severe human health concerns. Although it is unclear when the actual question of the harmfulness of asbestos was demonstrated last argument, it is generally accepted that in the mid-1960s or early 1970s, central authorities were aware of it.

Fortunately, we live in a place where these attitudes-in point or another, are punishable by law, a country where mistakes can eventually correct. Thanks to the appreciation of the growing public of risks of exposure to asbestos and the valiant efforts of the plaintiffs seeking compensation for the problems he endured (nothing worse than mesothelioma), we have reached a point in patients with mesothelioma have a high probability of being able to find some form of positive outcome for legal aid and action in the courts. Naturally, only how'positive "the results could be is a question: regardless of any financial compensation can be extracted from the asbestos industry or employer unfair, the most positive of all that has been contracting mesothelioma victim or never any other asbestos-related disease in the 1st place. But seeing as the past is done and can not be changed, patients with mesothelioma are encouraged to seek legal remedies to repair the damage done to them best.

Given the undeniable fact that many people around the world have fallen ill with mesothelioma and various Govts have taken the matter seriously, and fully responsible for the health problems caused by asbestos exposure has risen above billions of dollars. (Which does not answer the question, what was the margin of the asbestos industry after paying lots of cash for the victims?)

Although this news may be good for victims of mesothelioma, you should also alert to the need to intelligently select disclaimer. In the light of the economic benefits that such settlements represent or rewards (of which 40% is usually a lawyer), many lawyers will be eager to hop in these cases-despite the fact that you can not have the experience or experience critical to achieve an outcome that benefits the victim. The charm of this huge chunk of money they can bring some less reliable than the lawyers of wood, and is the reason why victims should have a list prepared by ticks powerful help them eliminate the opportunistic and noobs . Think of it as nothing more than a way to help protect the interests of victims of mesothelioma.

Among the things the victim or family members of the victim should ask a potential lawyer, the following points are of particular importance: a) Like many of asbestos / mesothelioma cases has the lawyer in question is handled in the past? Two) were the preferred outcome of the cases the victim? 3) Does the council handled the case in real life, or plan to pass it to another company in search of a final rate (assuming that the result is really in favor of the victim)? Finally, four) How much does the lawyer intends to charge for their services, and how much is needed up front (if anything)?

with respect to the previous question above, mesothelioma patients and their families should know that there are law firms and mesothelioma lawyer out there that can take the case, and requires no upfront payment, asks only one part of the solution of rewards if complaints become a success.
